As part the City of Hartford’s commitment to maintaining quality service and safe drinking water, the Water Utility will be performing maintenance on the water tower located at the intersection of Center Street and High Street (just east of St. Kilian’s Catholic School). Since you may notice activity on and around the water tower, we wanted to assure you that your water service will not be affected by the maintenance and to keep you informed about what is going on and anticipate some of the questions you may have.Who will be working on the tower? The City of Hartford has contracted with Dixon Engineering to engineer and inspect the project and with L.C. United to make necessary improvements and to paint the water tower. What is the scope of the project? Our contractors will be power washing and repainting the outside of the water tower. It will be repainted with the same silver color as it is today. The inside of the tank will be abrasive blast cleaned and painted. This is all standard maintenance that is needed to keep the tower in good working condition and to prolong its useful life. When will the project start? The work will commence on or after May 29, 2018 and will be substantially completed in early July. Contractors are permitted to work on the tank from 7 AM to 6 PM Monday through Saturday. How will the work affect me? We strive to minimize any inconvenience to our customers when we do work in any neighborhood. For this project, you will notice that “No Parking” signs will be posted on the days the contractor is painting the exterior of the tank. The paint will be applied with brushes and rollers so there is very little concern that your personal property will be damaged. However, this will be just an added level of protecting your property. Will it be noisy? During the project, there will be typical construction noise that may come from equipment such as an air compressor, pressure washer or generator. You may notice a slight increase in noise when the contractor is abrasive blast cleaning the interior of the tank. This should last about 3-4 days. Removing the moisture and humidity from the interior of the tank is required after the paint is applied to properly cure the new paint. In order to do this, a generator will run a dehumidifier 24-hours a day for about a week. Questions?
